I got to meet some neat people on the wagon to Stonewall (that is the name of the big city). There was this nice old lady who sat next to me and had a big bag of boiled candies that she gave me some of. They were pretty good. She was on her way to the city to meet her son who lives there. And there was a man who had lots and lots of boxes full of something that I think he maybe was going to sell someplace. But I don't know what was in them because every time I tried to ask him he was asleep. So I don't know if he counts as somebody that I met or not.
But that's not all! The driver of the coach wagon said that there usually aren't any adventurers on it at all most of the time. But this time, there were four! No! I mean there were five, because I am an adventurer too! The man who sat on the other side of me for part of the trip was called Plot. (He moved to a different seat at the next stop. I guess that one was not comfy enough.) You know how humans are big-tall? Plot is a human, but he is not just big tall, he is big-big. He seemed nervous when I tried to talk to him, but I think that just means that he is shy. Plot liked the old lady's candies too. And Plot likes to hit things. We have a lot in common, so I bet we will be great friends some day.
Then there was Markan. Markan is a cleric. That means that he talks to gods, and then the gods tell him secret magic things. He told me what the name of his god was, but I can never seem to remember what he said it was. I am not sure why. I guess maybe that is why I do not talk to gods like he does. Markan is good at making it all foggy, which I guess is nice if bad people are shooting at you, but it can make it hard to hit things. He also is really, really good at making you feel better when you get hurt! So I like Markan. And I like Markan even more when I am hurt.
Zander does magic too, like Markan. But he is a sorcerer, so he does not use gods to do his magic. I am not sure what he uses. I think maybe a weasel. I do not remember the weasel's name either, though. Zander's magic is really neat: he makes colors! Bright and shiny and swirly colors! He usually only shows them to monsters, but I got to see them once too. That was fun. But it is hard to fight when you are watching the colors, so maybe he should only use them when we are not busy fighting things. I think he has other magic too, but I do not remember what, because when I think about Zander, all I can think about are all the neat colors.
And it is important that I do not forget Bort! Bort is a dwarf. I have not seen many dwarfs who are not my mother or my father or my grandfather, so I am happy that I got to meet Bort. He knows about a lot of dwarfy things, like urgoshes and ogres and gold. I think that he is very good with gold. Mom always said that I should try to marry a dwarf who is dwarfy and good with gold, so maybe I should try to marry Bort. But maybe I should get to know him better before I tell him that. I wonder if Bort's mother told him to marry a dwarf who is good at beating things up.
So that is who I met on the wagon to the Stonewall. When I told Dad that I wanted to go to the big city to find an adventure, he said that whenever an adventurer tries to go someplace, an adventure will always find them on the way there. And Dad must have been a pretty good adventurer, because he knew just what he was talking about!
